After an undeniably successful season last year, it is with great pride to announce that all players from last seasons squad will be re-signed and will remain at the football club.
The squad was boosted also with the signings of:
Tilly Frost – A forward player who has been training with Ashford Ladies as a youth player for over a year. Tilly offers pace, strength and creativity.
Nicole Jacobs – A defensive player who previously played for Middlesex Centre of Excellence. Great technique on the ball and possess a good understanding of the game.
Samara Phillips-Hines – A player also from Middlesex Centre of Excellence who saw opportunities at QPR and Brentford limited. A great central midfield player who’s shown a real desire to impress. A young player with bundles of potential.
Sequoia Belworthy – A young player who finished top goalscorer for Brentford Girls for the past three seasons. Taking a big step from youth to adult football however one she will truly embrace. A player with pace, energy and a proven goal threat.
Row Angelique – A player with a great understanding of the game who influences and drives teammates constantly. Great at manipulating the football and possess the rare ability to play in a variety of positions.
The signings above have improved the quality of the side and that allowed players to head into the pre season friendlies full of confidence.
The first pre season fixture was against Charlton Athletic Ladies, who are members of the Womens Premier League (WPL) having marginally missed out on promotion to the Womens Super League 2 (WSL) by a single point, last season.
Their experience and quality shun throughout as they were rampant winners in a very one sided game.
A defensive test for Ashford, which helped and also allowed for the improvement to show when Ashford faced Colne Valley Ladies (GLWFL Premier Division) the week after running out as winners.
The performance was important and a very confident display from everyone which included hatricks from three players; Ashley Cheatley, Vicky James and Tilly Frost saw Ashford win 11-0.
Next up was Hemel Hempstead (GLWFL Premier Division) a very different and difficult test as they were under new management and recruited extremely well during the off season.
Ashford started well with a 2-0 lead before Hemel clawed it back to 2-2. Ashford then went 4-2 up before Hemel got a late goal to reduce the deficit to 4-3.
A pleasing offensive performance with defensive scenarios of course to work on.
This sent Ashford into the final pre season fixture before enjoying a few weeks break.
Next up was Watford Development (LSEWFL) who had promoted from the GLWFL Premier Division last season.
Ashford cruised to a 4-0 start only for Watford to make a dramatic come back to make it 5-4 before Ashford scored a quickfire double to win 6-5.
Plenty to work on before the season begins however very pleasing results and performances against teams two/three leagues above.
Thank you to all teams for the pre season friendly.
