Ashford Ladies extend their lead at the top of the Division

Ashford Ladies extended their lead at the top of Division 3 South with a 5-0 victory over Hammersmith Starz.

Hammersmtih, with a new look squad, had the better of the early chances with wave after wave of attacks at the Ashford goal however it was Ashley Cheatley who capped off a well worked goal after brilliant work from Irisha Smith on the wing.

Hammersmith again went close shortly after, however came up against a resilient Lauren Restel who was determined to keep her fourth clean sheet of the season.

It was also an assist from Restel which saw Lavana Neufville beat the offside trap and finish at the second time of asking after the ball rebounded off the goalkeeper into her path.

The halftime whistle then blew and it was a relief for Ashford who needed to regroup which is what they did in the very one sided second half.

Smith got her reward after tireless work on the wing, new signing Charmaine Benham capped her debut with a goal just before the hour mark and Smith made it five for Ashford at the death.

Hammersmith proved a challenging outfit for Ashford, and could have seen them take something out of this game on another day.

Ashford proved the quality outfit they are and made a real statement of intent as to where they want to end this season and begin the next.
